Just a quick post to say that things have been too busy getting settled (and too damn hot!) to post. I suspect that sometime this weekend I will collect all of my stories and post them all at once to get caught up, then attempt to post more regulary... Things are going well, and I'm happy to be here. I have been feeling some tinges of homesickness, though, so please drop me a note!

So here I am in Tokyo, waiting for my flight to Hong Kong. I'm tired and sweaty and gross and a little sad, and everything still seems incredibly surreal. Probably because the last few days in Canada were pretty surreal, what with the threat of subpeona (sp?!) and dad losing that chunk of his finger... (I only have five minutes left here at the Internet Kiosk, so I'll have to explain all about those two misadventures later.)
The flights have been pretty tame. I couldn't stay awake for most of the Chicago-Tokyo leg, which was probably for the best - it was a 12-hour flight, and I was crammed in a middle seat beside a nice but slightly strange American man named Bob who really had no concept of personal space. (I awoke from one haze to have him offer me his shoulder to sleep on - I politely declined and slept some more.)
The flight to HK is about four and a half hours, then I get to go to my hotel for a shower and to sleep in a real bed. Tomorrow I'll be taking a train to the border, then a bus to Shantou. Denice, that wonderful woman, is taking the four-hour bus ride to the border to meet me and take me back to Shantou. She rocks!
